The airports that matter
Milan Linate is ten minutes from the centre with a dedicated private terminal; Malpensa takes the largest aircraft and night movements. Rome Ciampino is the capital's business airport. Venice serves the Dolomites and the lagoon. Olbia is the gateway to Porto Cervo. Naples leads to Capri, Positano and Ravello by helicopter or boat.
Florence has a short runway that limits larger jets, so Pisa or Bologna are often used for Tuscany. Genoa is the airport for Portofino. Lugano, across the Swiss border, is often the closest jet airport to the western shore of Lake Como.
Rules and taxes
Italy is part of the European single aviation market: any operator with an EASA air operator certificate can fly passengers within Italy. Operators from outside the European Union need specific permission for domestic flights.
Italy levies a per passenger tax on private charter flights, scaled by distance. It is always included in an Atljet quote, together with landing, parking and handling fees.
