What is a charter jet?

The short answer

A charter jet is a private aircraft you hire as a whole, with its crew, from a licensed operator, for your route and your schedule. You do not buy seats: the cabin is yours. The operator flies under its air operator certificate and is responsible for safety; a broker or a desk like Atljet finds the aircraft and builds the price. London to Geneva on a light jet costs from €8,800 one way.

How a charter happens

You describe the trip: route, date, passengers, luggage, anything special. The desk checks which aircraft are free and where they are, prices the options and sends them, usually within the hour, with the aircraft type and its year. You choose, sign and pay; the tail number and the crew are confirmed; the operator files the flight plan; the car takes you to the aircraft.

Charter, jet card, ownership

Charter is pay as you fly: no commitment, the right aircraft for each trip. A jet card or a corporate account fixes hours and rates in advance for frequent flyers. Owning makes sense only with several hundred hours a year.
